Market Introduction

Indonesia, as a member of ASEAN, is the largest economy in Southeast Asia and the fourth most populous country in the world. In recent years, it has enjoyed political stability, maintained good relations with China, and fostered a dynamic market environment.

The Indonesian Pulp and Paper Industry (IPPI) comprises 112 sectors with a total capacity of 11.45 million tons of pulp and 20.65 million tons of paper. In 2022, the IPPI contributed 3.6% to the national GDP, generating $8.4 billion in foreign exchange. Pulp exports totaled $3.69 billion, while paper exports reached $4.8 billion. The IPPI leads the ASEAN region in both paper and pulp production, ranks third in Asia, and stands second in pulp production globally. Additionally, it ranks fifth in both overall consumption and production, with pulp production placing seventh. Recycled paper is commonly used in a total of 54 pulp and paper industries as raw material, with an annual demand of 6.7 to 7 million tons and an annual output of 7.6 million tons. The demand for recycled paper/ waste paper is expected to increase annually. However, the supply of recycled paper for packaging paper production still heavily relies on the import, as the quantity and quality of domestic supplies cannot meet industry demands. China is a main trading partner for Indonesia in paper products, being their largest export destination and importer. In 2022, Indonesia exported 747,60,7 tons of paper products to China and imported 307,526 tons from China.

The water treatment industry in Indonesia plays a crucial role in addressing the dual challenges of water resource utilization and environmental protection. Given the country's abundant water resources, it is important for Indonesia paper industry to utilize water efficiently and treat wastewater effectively. The paper industry, as a major consumer of water resources, requires advanced wastewater treatment technology to protect Indonesia's water resources and maintain ecological balance. With tightening regulations and increasing public environmental awareness, the Indonesian paper industry is actively seeking more efficient and eco-friendly water treatment technologies. International cooperation and technology introduction are key for promoting the development of the industry. Facing the challenge of transformation and upgrading, the Indonesian paper water treatment industry need to enhance water resource utilization and reduce pollutant emissions through technological innovation and management optimization to achieve sustainable development. Against the backdrop of global promotion of wastewater resource utilization, the development of the Indonesian paper water treatment industry is crucial not only for its own survival and development but also for the ecological and environmental health of Indonesia and the world.

The demand for products and technologies in Indonesia's papermaking, packaging, and water treatment industries is robust and rapidly growing, attracting global investment and trade interest.

CNCIC & BDM PLUS

China National Chemical Information Center (CNCIC) was established in 1992 by merging the former Chemical Ministry's Scientific and Technical Information Research Institute (founded in 1959) and the former Chemical Ministry's Economic Information Center (founded in 1984). After more than 60 years of development, the center has become a prestigious research consulting and integrated marketing service institution in the chemical industry.

In 2021 China National Chemical Information Center (CNCIC) focused on four major environmentally friendly materials and services: bio-based materials, paper-based materials, pulp, and bamboo pulp materials, as well as the latest environmental water treatment technology and services. It engaged in deep interaction with government authorities, research institutes, industry associations, producers, distribution channels, and end consumers, fully integrating relevant resources and channels within the system to create the BDM Environmental Materials and Products Service Platform (BDMPLUS Environmental Protection Platform).

It features eight major sections, including professional exhibitions, thematic conferences, research consulting, group standards, online sharing, industry selection, resource matching, and media promotion, providing a one-stop service system for the industry in consulting, technology, trade, and communication.

The Paper Chain + Clean Water global series of exhibitions and concurrent forums are annual significant events of the BDM PLUS Environmental Protection Platform.

The Indonesia International Paper Chain Industry Expo is a game-changer, showcasing innovative solutions and fostering valuable partnerships in the pulp and paper sector.
